I dont know a whole lot about this guy but he seems to really be able to handle the bat. He hit 33 HRs in 90 games in Cuba last year while hitting at a .333 clip. I certainly wouldnt expect that in the MLB but those number ought to translate fairly nicely. Maybe hit .290 with 30 HR in a full season? It appears that the Cubs are making just as much of a push for him as anyone. He is only 26, it would be nice to land him if he can come at a reasonable rate. It seems like we got a lot of OF and Pitchers.

IF the Cubs do sign him he would instantly slot in as our best prospect ahead of Brett Jackson and Anthony Rizzo. The problem is we would not be paying him prospect money. He would be getting paid the salary of an everyday big leauger. I see him best fit to start at AA and hopefully quickly master that and move to the AAA club to polish his raw talent. At that rate I wouldn't anticipate him to be an expected piece to the big league roster this season. Unfortunatley with the ammount of money we would be paying him it would be a waste to have him not be a contributor.
He has raw talent and could quickly prove to be a middle of the order hitter, but at age 26 how patient are you willing to be with a highly paid player that needs some serious developing and harnessing of his potential. P.s. I don't want to see him trying to catch balls behind his back at Wrigley (see his long winded hype video) Yoenis Cespedes in the outfieldJanuary 25, 2012 1:35 pm
That's how Theo likes to build his team. You can never have too much talent. Hendry never understood that. Times are a changin for our Cubbies. As long as we don't get into a bidding war I say sign the guy. He's major league ready.
